Weekending | Wildlife and Country Life

Happy Monday!  It's been a beautiful weekend in North Florida- cool in the mornings and nights, and warming up nicely during the day.  But not TOO hot yet.  We actually slept with the window open on Saturday night, and the temps were perfect for dog-snuggling!

My weekend started early- I wound up leaving work after only a few hours, because one of the other offices on the floor was painting.  Now, I play with paint and refinish things.  Never have I ever had such a reaction to whatever paint FSU uses.  A couple years ago, they were painting our trim and doors.  After two days of poor ventilation and working in the fumes, I wound up with bronchitis.  I never knew it was even possible to catch like this, but alas.  This time, I decided I'd rather get paid a little sick pay for a few hours of work than to miss it for days altogether.  After only two hours, I could feel my throat getting scratchy.  I was gone.

Gone shopping, that is!  Husband was in town for work, so we met at the mall.  I had to pick up some earrings that was left out of my bag the other day, which irked me.  I worked retail, I know how easy it is to leave something so small out.  But I called immediately when I got home the other day to see if they could just taken them of my card -it can be done with the card / receipt info, which I could provide- but they said no, that they could mail them to me.  Give them my info, say they will go out the next day.  Day after, I go in just to check, low and behold- they're still sitting there!!!  Anyway, I felt better once I got these...
I've been wanting a pair of Chucks (affiliate link) forever, and have just found other stuff I'd rather have.  Finally, I came to the conclusion that I only have a couple pairs of close-toed shoes that aren't heels.  I've added to my resolutions for this year- buy more shoes!  Husband's happy.
Being home on Friday afternoon with husband (who was still having to work) and bears, I decided to partake in my first day-drinking of 2015...
Duck Commander Wine in a Tervis Mug
See the piping around the edges of the couch cushions?  The little girl on the right (in front of the vacuum) insists on removing it from the couch.  Which is why you can see the zippers- we put the least chewed on side to the front.  Also, Tervis mugs are excellent wine glasses!

Saturday we got up bright and early (like 4-5am!) to hang out.  Or to drive down to Ocala to look at some equipment before hiking.
Huge bucket loader
This thing was about about 10 feet tall- and look at the massive tire in the back!

We did a 3.5 mile hike at Paynes Prairie Preserve, and saw more wildlife than we every have before!
Wildlife at Paynes Prairie State Preserve
Woodpeckers aren't this size back home- you can see all the holes on the trunk of the tree from his lunch!  3 Deer just kind of hung out, watching us watch them.  It didn't take them long to get bored of our picture taking.  A Bald Eagle is perched in a tree, looking out for the mama and babies in the nest in the next tree over!

Sunday was grocery shopping- It's auction-time next week, so I'm on my own as far as feedin' time.
Ritchie Brothers Auction Brochure
Any body need any heavy machinery?  Have any to sell?  Call Ritchie Brothers.  Unless you're in the panhandle of Florida, then call my husband.
And, finally, we rounded out Sunday with a little stress relief for us- one of the many perks of Plantation Life.
Shooting .22 S&W Rifle
I KNOW you're all wondering what I'm wearing.  I'll check in on Wednesday with a full post, and more pictures.  Scott was having a fun time playing photographer.  Basically, if I want him to take any pictures, I need to be holding a gun.
How was everyone else's weekend?!

  1. Sounds like the perfect weekend... what's better than getting to start a weekend early? And I'm really into those Converse sneakers!

  2. It was a good one! The only problem I've found so far with the Converse is getting them broken in- the heel is chaffing right now! I found some slip on ones on Amazon that I'm really liking, too!

  4. Haha thanks! My shoulder's a little sore today from the recoil of the .223, but it is fun! We've been trying hard on the hiking- my problem is, that once I've been on one trail I don't really feel the need to do it again! It makes it so we have to have a constant bank of parks to go to, and do a different trail!

  5. Sounds like you had a great weekend! Day drinking is the only drinking I partake in these days. Love the new shoes! And isn't it crazy the things the dogs obsess over?!?! Hope you have a great week!

  6. My dogs are definitely special! They have the weirdest habits! I don't drink much at all, but it just seemed only fitting to kick off an early weekend with 2 o'clock wine!

  7. Normal paint doesn't bother me. Whatever this industrial crap they use, is brutal though!

Thanks! I haven't shot for a while, at least not since husband tore up a corner of our back yard to make the shooting lane!

We tend to see more on the hikes when we actually look up- neither one of us are a fan of snakes, so we're ALWAYS looking out for them on the trails, and miss so much!
